Ren Grabert: Nonjudgmental Therapist, Chicago
They/Them/Theirs
MSW, MEd, Pre-Licensed Therapist

I am open to new clients at this time.

I believe that every person is highly adaptive, that our problems make sense, and that many of our difficulties stem from past solutions to helped us stay safe and survive.

I am gender-affirming, sex positive, and believe in body liberation/health at every size (HAES). I am especially passionate about working with LGBTQIA+, non-monogamous, kinky, and neurodivergent folks. As a chronically ill person myself, I love helping folks to manage chronic illness/pain and self-advocate within healthcare systems. My areas of focus include helping people to build self-esteem and self-efficacy, to build tools to navigate neurodivergence in adulthood, and to identify core beliefs and needs so that they can live life more authentically.

My approach to therapy is collaborative, relational, and non-pathologizing. My goal is co-create a warm and non-judgmental environment that encourages curiosity, connection, and a spirit of exploration. Through our work together, I endeavor to meet you where you are, to uphold respect for your individual lived experience and to practice cultural humility. I believe that you are the expert on your own life and I consider it a real honor to get to work side-by-side with you towards your specific goals.

My work is grounded in mindfulness, family systems, harm-reduction, and trauma-informed approaches. I utilize a strengths-based lens and often integrate somatic (body-based) interventions and practices when appropriate. Though I draw from various theoretical frameworks, research has shown that the most important factor for therapeutic progress is the relationship between client and therapist. Therefore, I strive to always bring my authentic (and imperfect) self and welcome you to share about what you want from our time together, as well as what’s working and not working.
