I am open to new clients at this time.
Hi! My name is Melanie, I am a licensed social worker and certified sex crisis counselor.
Before starting at Best Therapies, I was an advocate at a sex crisis center and worked with survivors of sexual assault and their loved ones. My experience in trauma work has given me valuable insight into the various ways that experience can drastically alter our sense of safety and stability in the world.
Many of us are socialized to label our dysfunctional parts as “bad” and we’re often taught to ignore these parts, outcast them, or override them with positive sentiment. I prefer to view the human psyche as inherently good, but through trauma/experience we learn coping mechanisms to deal with the pain life throws at us, and these coping mechanisms can disrupt our ability to function. I fully believe with the right tools we all have the ability to heal, change patterns, and live happier, more fulfilling lives.
I prefer to work from a holistic perspective, blending western and eastern ideology through the use of mindfulness, somatic therapy, IFS, ACT, CBT, and Gottman Therapy/EFT with couples. The modalities I use in session depends on the client(s), and their needs/preferences.
The term “healing” can be subjective and might seem intimidating to many. My goal is to create a therapeutic alliance where the space can be serious but also fun and rewarding. It’s all about balance!
